Weaning puppies from their mothers onto a solid diet of raw food.
This starts at about 3 to 4 weeks of age. Starting with raw goats milk or lambs milk. Then gradually add solid puppy food with a drizzle of bone broth for added benefits.
The puppies will naturally take less of their mother’s milk in time. If you wish you can make the food more into a paste by putting it through a food processor, entirely your own choice. Our puppy food has been twice through the milling process to break up meat and bone into even smaller parts.
They will feed little and often so offering food initially a couple of times a day then increase to 5 times a day over the week so to encourage them to take less from their mother and help her dry up over a few weeks. Then, gradually reduce to 4 times a day towards 8 to 10 weeks old.
The mother must have access to her puppies and be able to come and go as she pleases. This will encourage natural weaning and help her milk dry up naturally from nursing the pups full time to part time them she will decide the time is right they need no more.
This is why for me it essential that pups are not homed until 10 to 12 weeks of age for both their health, learning canine language skills and happiness but the health and well-being of their mother also.
